Mr. Sam is my foster dog. He’s looking for a forever home. I guess he’s about two years old and he’s full of vim, vitality and vigor. He looks like he might be a mixture of corgi, doxi , and heaven knows what else.
I’ve had him in less than a day and I know the following things about him. Sometime in his life he has been loved. Some time in his life somebody beat the shit out of him. Because he is afraid of an upraised hand, like so many abused children I know, I treat him like an abused child. It works very well. No unexpected moves because I am still a stranger to him, one he really wants to trust and love
He loves to play with toys. So at some point in his life he had toys before. He is very playful. He has beautiful eyes and a joyous smile. He loves everything. He loves car rides, being outside, being inside, toys, eating, sleeping, cuddling on the couch, did I mention squeaky toys? At a certain point today there was so much squeaking going on that I had to take out my hearing aid and McKinley was whining from all the noise. It is normally a very quiet house. 😉
He wants to play with McKinley but he is three or four times her size and no matter how hard he tries to be gentle it’s like putting her on a tilt-a-whirl.
He was supposed to go to a placement service in North Texas but the truck broke down. So he and 98 other dogs were stranded here in Tyler, Texas.
He is learning not to dart out the door – that’s going to be a long-term project. He is learning to walk on a leash without lunging and he’s actually doing pretty well with that. He is great about riding in the car. No problems there. I have to be on him all the time about not mark in the house and I think he has mostly been an outside dog so that’s something we just have to work on. If I catch him quickly I can redirect him and get him outside no problem so he is never very far from me. No one ever taught him any manners so it is not his fault. He wants very much to please. He doesn’t want to do anything to make me unhappy.
I got a kick out of it when he crawled up in the chair I usually sit in. Often McKinley sits there as well so she couldn’t get in because he was taking up the whole chair. At the moment I am on the couch with Sam on my left and her on my right. He is sound asleep with his head on my leg and she is sound asleep on a pillow just as if she is the princess and the pea – as usual.
He has the bark of a bass drum and if I was a burglar I would be scared witless of this little short stack.
If there is room in your home or your heart or both to adopt a dog I hope you will consider it. If you can’t adopt possibly you could foster. Just please don’t buy dogs; we have so many who die because there are not enough homes for them.
Sam would love a mom and a dad or just a mom or just a dad with a house with the yard or house without a yard or an apartment. Someplace he could go home and it would be his forever home with his forever person or people. Sam, whose name was not Sam before, because he doesn’t respond to it, but he responds to kissing noises, would love to be somebody’s forever dog. He is a handsome man and he will be a wonderful companion to someone.
You, perhaps?

When my little dog and I came back from a walk I went to go water some outside plants and came upon this tiny little bird next to one of the big planters. It is fully fledged so it’s not a baby. However something was going on because it did not move. It just breathed deeply repeatedly and stood there is if I couldn’t see it. Fortunately the dog ignored it entirely.
I went inside with the dog and got a small bowl of water and put it out relatively close to the little bird didn’t move at all. I was hoping that the poor little thing wasn’t dying but one never knows. I also hope that the condo cat wouldn’t get it.
It even let me get this close to take a picture.
I wasn’t about to interact further because in the event that there were other birds looking for it… As in parent birds and I didn’t want to have humans sent near it.
Half an hour later the little bird was gone. I hope all is well with it. The water is still there. There may be the bird had a drink and felt better. It is very hot outside so possibly the bird was too exhausted to go further.
Fly high little bird.
